Srinagar, Jan 21 (KNO): Police in Shopian on Tuesday said to have booked a notorious drug peddler under Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.
The notorious drug peddler namely Manzoor Ahmad Reshi son of Ab Rasheed Reshi resident of Wachi Reshi Mohalla Shopian has been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kothbalwal Jammu, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
The aforementioned drug peddler is a habitual offender, involved in Case FIR No. 08/2023 of Police Station Bijbehara & 36/2023 of Police Station Zainapora. Despite having been bound down under preventive measures repeatedly, Manzoor Reshi persisted with his involvement in illegal drug trafficking, posing a grave threat to the society, especially the youth, police said.
Known for his notoriety as a chronic miscreant and drug peddler, the accused person has been actively engaged in illegal drug trafficking and creating public nuisances. He is a key figure in the narcotics trade, procuring drugs from various sources and selling them at higher prices, primarily targeting the youth of Zainapora, police said.
“This decisive action by Police demonstrates its unwavering commitment to combating the drug menace and protecting society.
